ANGEL CITY FUSION

1. What is Fusion dance?

Fusion Dance is a contemporary American lead-follow partner dance. It creates an entirely new aesthetic from existing partner dances such as Lindy-Hop, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Blues, Tango, Salsa, and Ballroom. By taking the best techniques from each dance and accentuating improvisation, it provides a welcoming environment for dancers from different communities to promote freedom of expression and explore new dance possibilities. Although experimental, Fusion is not entirely free-form: it is a skilled and practiced dance, dependent on sophisticated techniques of connection. The definition of Fusion is necessarily ambiguous because it is in its initial stages of development – moreover, as a dance, the essence of Fusion resides in the very process of becoming and in the art of avoiding strict definitions and limitations, and if it is ever “locked down” it will have lost its very reason for being.

2. What is our mission?

Our mission is to introduce and promote Fusion Dance in the Los Angeles area. The event will welcome dancers of all levels from many different disciplines of dance. There currently exist strong Lindy-Hop, West Coast Swing, Blues, Tango, Salsa, and Ballroom scene – our goal is to provide a venue to come together as friends and dancers to use the best techniques from each dance to create something new. As Fusion Dance grows in popularity throughout the country, we want to provide local dancers with a place to hone their skills so they can be part of the larger movement.
